About ...

The search for a “something special” hat put me on the path to hat making.

With a background in sewing, I was drawn to the art of millinery and began exploring its many techniques. To refine my skills, I’ve completed numerous courses under the guidance of some of the finest milliners in Melbourne, Sydney, and the south of France.

Each piece I create is individually designed and handmade using quality materials.

I am committed to sourcing materials that are produced ethically and sustainably. The fur felts I use are a by-product of the European rabbit meat industry, and the handwoven straws come from Ecuador through a company that supports local village artisans in continuing this ancient craft. I save all offcuts to use as trims in smaller pieces like fascinators — nothing goes to waste.

I also avoid buying plastic packaging. Instead, I reuse the materials my supplies arrive in — including bubble wrap and boxes. So if your headwear turns up in a wine, fruit, or other reused box, know it’s all part of our effort to reduce waste. At Hat Ensemble, we aim to tread lightly on the planet while producing high-quality, handmade headwear.

This truly is slow fashion.

All products are handmade in Perth, Western Australia.
